Five people are dead after a shooting at a Maryland newspaper’s office
A shooter has killed five people and injured an unknown number of others in a shooting at a local Maryland newspaper, the Capital Gazette, according to police. [Vox / German Lopez]
Police have taken an individual into custody. The shooter, a white male, used a shotgun. At this time, little is known about the shooter or a potential motive. [Associated Press]
The man in custody is reportedly not cooperating with police, declining to give them his name. The man did not have his ID on him, police said. [David Begnaud via Twitter]

Reporters in the newsroom shared harrowing and horrifying details on social media. When the shooting started, a summer intern named Anthony Messenger wrote, “Active shooter 888 Bestgate please help us.” [Anthony Messenger via Twitter]
Phil Davis, another Capital Gazette reporter who was in the newsroom at the time of the shooting, said that the gunman had shot through the glass door to the newsroom and proceeded to open fire on multiple people. [Phil Davis via Twitter]
