Reports: Atlanta United sell Carlos Carmona to Colo-Colo

The midfielder wanted to return home to be with his wife as she’s due to give birth soon.

Atlanta United are reportedly set to lose a key member of their midfield as Carlos Carmona is on his way back home to Chile. Colo-Colo is his destination as the Five Stripes have agreed to sell the 30-year-old in a deal that is expected to be made official soon.

FOX Sports Chile was the first to report that a deal would be finalized over this coming weekend.

Since then, the AJC’s Doug Roberson has confirmed the report and even spoke with Atlanta’s Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra on the reasoning for selling an important player.

The basic reality of this move is that Carmona’s wife is due to give birth soon and he wanted to return to his home country to be with his family. Bocanegra revealed to Roberson that the club did the right thing by letting fulfilling his wishes.

“We wouldn’t be doing the right thing standing in his way.”

A source familiar with the situation has told Dirty South Soccer that Atlanta United will be searching for a replacement for Carmona on the roster as the club’s second season approaches.

Good luck to Carlos and his family and thanks for your great contributions to the club during its inaugural season.
